Other times, you can get less then you hoped for. The effort and time is large in regards to the return. The high street guys have over heads so almost ALWAYS offer less than the items true worth-given that they need to profit from your gold and silver, the offer as much as half less than its value. How to sell to us

Register your interest by completing the form at the right of this screen.

We will contact you within 6 hours with a unique number and info pack that contains everything you need to get cash for your unwanted jewellery. Collect all your old, unwanted, broken or damaged gold jewellery and place it in an envelope, fill in the form sent in the email. Send via Special Delivery* (we refund the entire postage cost if you decide to sell to us)

A Universal Gold customer care representative will contact you the moment your gold has been valued at our South Wales office. We will contact you as you have specified (by telephone, email or text) to quote the value of your items, then an email will be sent with an image of the weight of the items that corresponds with the price we agree per gram for each carat. Upon your acceptance of the amount quoted we will send a cheque or Money Transfer** within two business days (although bank transfer and postage of cheques may add to this time frame).

*If you believe your gold is worth more than £500 please pay extra insurance at the post office.

** If you choose to receive your payment by money transfer Universal Gold will deduct a £15 fee from the value of your payment. Payments by cheque are free of charge. We don’t do PayPal transfers unfortunately.

If we make an offer you are not 100% happy with, we will return your items via Royal Mail Special Delivery. This is at your cost though. Then again, we offer more for gold and silver than ANYONE else, so we are sure you will be happy with our offer.

An example of our price structure:

Richard sold us 17g of 9ct gold, of that 9g was broken or damaged gold. The rest (8g) was usable gold jewellery (rings, chains and pendants). He was offered £192 plus the postage to us at £6.45. He opted for a Cheque as payment method so was paid £198.45 in total for his gold. 

Richard’s figures were worked out by taking his broken gold, paid at £8 per gram 8X9=72.

The non-scrap or useable gold was priced at £15 per gram 8X15=120 (including the weight of any stones) and paid at £120. He selected cheque as payment so paid no money transfer fees. He was refunded the Royal Mail Special Delivery postage cost at £6.45. Thus his total is £198.45.

Please note, Earrings are ALWAYS considered scrap and not reusable due to hygiene. This is even if they appear new or you tell us they are new.


What We Buy

However, we don’t buy:

Costume (fake) jewellery that does not contain precious metals. Nor any gold or silver plated items.

We don’t buy Gold Plated items that may be hallmarked “1/20” or other fractions of a certain karat weight, or with G.F. or G.P. all indicating gold plating. Rolled gold or any gold plated items have extremely small amounts of gold and therefore are not purchased.

Silver Plated items that may be hallmarked E.P.N.S. or with other similar E.P. marks indicating that it is electroplated silver over other non-precious metals. The amount of silver present is extremely small on these items.

Unfortunately, we do not buy diamonds or other gemstones. Generally, we add them to the weight of the metal when we price items. We cannot take the cost of diamonds (or other gemstones) into account in any offer; this is due to many reasons, primarily the difficulty and cost in assaying diamonds less than 1.5 carat. Also, we source diamonds that are certified conflict free; this is not something we can do with diamonds already set by another jewellery maker. You can of course, have the diamonds returned back and we are happy to remove them without charge. Although returns are at your expense but such shipping costs can be deducted from any final payment.

Terms & Conditions

In these terms and conditions, which are in addition to the main TERMS & CONDITIONS of Universal Gold, are, unless the context otherwise requires: “We” or “Company” or “Universal Gold” means Universal Gold as a company. “You” or “Customer” means the person entering into an agreement with us for the sale of precious metals. These terms and conditions together with those described on the Company’s website shall be binding on the customer of Universal Gold and shall insure in the benefit of Universal gold or any successors and assigns. These terms and conditions shall be governed by the laws of England and Wales. No failure of Universal Gold to exercise or enforce any right or provision of these terms and conditions will not be deemed as a waiver of such right or provision.

You warrant to Universal Gold that you have: 1) Good and marketable title to the property you send in; and 2) Full authority to sell and transfer said property; and that 3) Said property is sold free of all liens, encumbrances, liabilities, and adverse claims of every nature and description whatsoever; and that 4) Said property is not from, or the result of, illegal activity in this country or any other country; and that 5) You are at least Eighteen (18) years of age; and that 6) Any transaction initiated by you will not cause Universal Gold to be in violation of any anti-money laundering, anti-terrorism, or other applicable law of the UK, or any country; and that 7) You are the actual legal owner of any and all property offered to be sold to Universal Gold (Universal Gold may, but shall not be required to, ask you to provide documentation or other proof of such ownership) and you are acting on your own behalf.

Once you have agreed with Universal Gold valuation and asked for payment, this is an irrevocable transaction binding both you and Universal Gold.

All property sent to Universal Gold by you other than by Royal Mail must be by a carrier that employs a system whereby your shipment can be traced. Nevertheless, all items shipped to us are at your risk. If you believe your gold jewellery or other property is worth more than £500 we recommend that you insure your shipment for more at your own expense using any carrier you choose. We also strongly advise that you list the contents on the Shipping Note Mandate which you must return to us. We also strongly advice you use Royal Mail Special Delivery to send items.

Universal Gold reserves the right to reject delivery of any package which appears to be damaged, opened, or tampered with. Any such item will be returned to you via Royal Mail without any liability to Universal Gold.

On receipt of your package, Universal Gold’s liability will be limited to the lesser of the following: 1) 33% of the certified appraised value of your items that has been appraised within the past 30 days. Universal Gold reserves the right to verify the appraisal certificate/document with a third party. 2) 33% of the wholesale value of your items. 3) The sum of seventy five pounds (£75)

In no event or circumstance will Universal Gold be liable to any third parties or insurance carriers, nor will Universal Gold be liable for any consequential or indirect loss. In no event shall Universal Gold be liable for any damages from the loss or destruction of property in its possession for any reason, including negligence greater in value than set out

You agree not to send to Universal Gold any hazardous materials irrespective of how they are contained or presented especially those containing: Arsenic, Beryllium, Bismuth, Cadmium, Mercury, Nickel, Lead, Antimony, Selenium, Tin, Tellurium or any other toxic elements. If such elements are sent alone, the relevant authorities will be informed. If the elements are sent are part of a package of other non-hazardous material, a disposable fee will be levied against the final offer made. Should this offer not be accepted, we will charge you a disposable fee and may deduct the amount in the form of valuable non-hazardous metals.

Having read, understood and agreed to Universal Gold purchasing policy and that if we are unsuccessful in contacting you for more than 31 days from the pack  we receive from you, we reserve the right to process your property (and make payment) without further reference to you and that once processed, the property cannot be recovered.

Universal Gold does not purchase any material that does not contain precious metals. These items can be returned and Universal Gold will return these items at your expense.

Universal Gold will pay you for the precious metal content and any precious stones deemed to be worth selling on. Universal Gold will not be held responsible for loss or damaged gem stones contained in jewellery that is sent to us for valuation additionally by sending us your jewellery you accept that the process of determining a value involves placing certain acids on the gold, silver or platinum and this can leave permanent staining and/or scratches. We do not compensate for any lose in value that may occur due to this.

If you decide not to accept our valuation your goods will be returned to you at Universal Gold cost within five working days (5 days) from when you declined our offer to purchase. Universal Gold will insure the item for no more than the amount offered by Universal Gold up to a maximum of £500 regardless of what it was insured for when mailed by the customer to Universal Gold. Unless Universal Gold is otherwise notified by the customer in written form (email or fax) prior to the return of the shipment and the customer agrees to pay for any extra insurance Universal Gold shall, in its sole discretion, choose the return carrier, insurance and receipt verification method for each transaction.

The largest item we will accept in weight is 20g. The largest single packet is 100g.

Universal Gold hours of business are Monday to Friday, 9am until 5pm. We are not open on Saturday, Sundays or UK Bank Holidays. If your material arrives or your acceptance falls within the last two hours of any working day your contact call or payment will be made/processed on the next business day following the weekend or Bank Holiday.

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Universal Gold against any and all liability, claims, suits, losses, costs and legal fees (paid in advance) caused by, arising out of, or resulting from any breach or claimed breach of these terms and conditions, including claims brought by third parties.

Universal Gold reserve the right to change these terms and conditions and advise you to revisit our website, Universal, periodically to ensure that you are aware of our current terms and conditions. Additionally, we will prominently note on our website that our terms and conditions have been changed and provided you did not elect to no longer receive correspondence from us, you will be notified via e-mail that such changes have been made.
